WINONA, Minn. - It's been a tough season for the Royals so far, and they were unable to gain any ground in the conference standings today, either.
Bethel traveled down to Saint Mary's to take on the Cardinals, who suddenly find themselves tied for first place in the MIAC with their 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 27-25) win over the Royals today.
In a sign of optimism for the future of the Bethel program,
Nicole Wriedt (Fr., Pewaukee, Wis.) was among the top two scorers for the Royals today, tallying 12 kills and a block assist for 12.5 points. Co-captain
Jennifer Stoa (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) also had 12.5 points on 10 kills and five block assists.
Jessica Mate of Saint Mary's led all scorers with 17.5 points on 17 kills and a block assist.
Bethel showed steady improvement with each set, forcing the third and final set to go past 25 points. However, 22 attack errors and seven service errors by the Royals, compared to just 12 and four on the other side of the net attributed to today's shortcoming.
The loss drops Bethel to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in MIAC play, while Saint Mary's improves to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Royals are scheduled to return home to take on Crown College in a non-conference match-up on Monday, Sept. 29, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Robertson Center gym.
