MOORHEAD, Minn. - For the third straight week, Bethel was unable to stir up much offense in a 24-7 loss to Concordia-Moorhead on the road today.
The game was a far cry from last year's 48-45 3OT win for the Royals that began their 8-0 conference run in 2007. Bethel was only able to amass 179 net yards of total offense, of which only 84 came on the ground. It then goes without saying that
Logan Flannery (So., Lakeville, Minn.) did not hit the 120-yard rushing mark as he had done in the first three games. He carried the ball 16 times for 41 yards, which included a long run of 13 yards.
Josh Aakre (Fr., Dawson, Minn.) took a majority of the snaps under center and was the second leading rusher with 33 yards on eight carries. Aakre was 7-for-14 passing for 83 yards. His longest pass of the day was a 22-yard completion to
Joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa), who scored the only touchdown for the Royals by way of a 78-yard kick return early in the fourth quarter.
Defensively,
Trent Pearson (So., Shakopee, Minn.) and
Darin Schwarze (Sr., Stanwood, Wash.) did a majority of the tackling, recording 14 and 13 tackles, respectively.
Tim Cornish (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) snagged his second interception of the season in the first quarter, but the Royals fumbled the ball on the very next play from scrimmage.
The loss drops Bethel to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC. The last time the Royals dropped three consecutive games was in 2002. Meanwhile, Concordia improves to 3-1 overall, and 2-0 in the conference. The next scheduled game for Bethel is next Saturday afternoon when they host Saint John's at Royal stadium at 1 p.m.
