Box Score
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Down 4-1 against the Crown College Storm late in the second half, the Royals scored two goals in the span of four-and-a-half minutes to pull within one point. However, the rally was too little, too late, as time expired with the score 4-3 in favor of the Storm in the Royals home opener at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex today.
Neither team was able to put any points on the scoreboard for the first 38 minutes of the game. It wasn't until Kyle Brubaker scored unassisted to put Crown up 1-0 heading into halftime.
Eight minutes into the second half, Crown added to their lead when Jon Schultz tallied an unassisted goal to put the Storm up 2-0. Bethel answered at the 58:31 mark of the game when
Randon Sommars (Sr., Cambridge, Minn.) scored with the help of
Brandon Peplinski (So., Maple Grove, Minn.).
But less than five minutes later, Schultz scored once again, with an assist credited to Erick Langmaack, to put the Storm back up by two. Brady Griffith knocked in what proved to be the game-winning goal close to the 77 minute mark with the help of Mark Jensen.
Down, but not completely out, the Royals cut their deficit in half when
David Swenson (So., Ham Lake, Minn.) scored off of pass from Sommars. Shortly thereafter,
Andreas Scott (So., Cedar, Minn.), who had a goal and an assist in yesterday's game against Northwestern, scored to make the game 4-3. Unfortunately for the Royals, that's all they would get as they fell for the second straight game.
Bethel is now 1-2 overall, while Crown evens their record at 1-1. The Royals will now travel to Morris to take on both the U of M Morris and University of Texas at Dallas this Friday and Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
