ST. PAUL, Minn. -
Through the rain, the Bethel University men's soccer team battled St. Thomas, but fell short of a victory as the Tommies topped the Royals 2-0.

Offensively, the Tommies came on the attack right away and put away a goal at 1:52 into the game. Mike Hutton scored the goal unassisted for St. Thomas. The second of the Tommie goals was scored by Andy Gikling at just over the 76 minute mark of the game, unassisted.

The Royals were unable to put any of their five shots past the Tommie goaltender. In the game, Brandon Peplinski (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) led the team with two shots on goal, while three other players put a single shot on net each.

The Royals are now 0-2 in the MIAC and 1-6 overall, while the Tommies are now 2-0 in the MIAC and 5-0 overall. The Royals are next scheduled to play an away game against conference opponent Macalester College on Sept. 17, at 7:45 p.m.
