MINNEAPOLIS - Bethel entered Monday's meet with St. Catherine hoping to win back-to-back conference decisions for the first time in two years. However, it was not to be as the Royals were defeated 5-4 in a hard-fought meet that saw three tiebreakers and was decided on the last match.
Cold temperatures forced the match to be moved indoors to the Baseline Club on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Bethel took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Kristin Kishaba (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis.) and younger sister Allison (So., Eau Claire, Wis.) improved to 3-2 in conference play with a win, while the tandem of Heather Blair (So., Glenwood, Minn.) and
Ashley Dohlen (So., Morris, Minn.) improved to 4-1 in the MIAC by winning as well.
In singles play, Allison improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in conference as she defeated Abby Beytien-Carlson. Blair also won, but it would not be enough as both Dohlen and
Andrea Beegle (Sr., Edina, Minn.) were defeated in their tiebreaker sets.
The Royals fall to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the MIAC, while the Wildcats improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Bethel is scheduled to take on St. Thomas on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex for their next match.
