ST. PAUL, Minn.
- Fresh off of a sweep of Carleton College, Bethel looked to continue their MIAC winning ways against the #15 nationally ranked St. Thomas Tommies today.

However, the Tommies had other plans and defeated the Royals 15-6 and 16-5 to take both games of the doubleheader today.

In game one, Bethel fell behind early and was unable to scrape a rally together until the top of the seventh inning when the bats came to life to score six runs.  The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Tyler Kramer (Sr., Maplewood, Minn.) and a RBI double by Brandon Carr (Sr., Fergus Falls, Minn.).

Travis Adams (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn.) took the loss for Bethel, allowing five earned runs in four innings of work on the mound.

Louie Salmen had three runs batted in and five different Tommies had two hits apiece.

In game two, Bethel jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a RBI single by Dana Hegman (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) to score Tim Churchill (So., Mt. Prospect, Ill.).  Later that inning, Sean Flaherty (So., Shoreview, Minn.) singled home Carr for the Royals second run.

From that point on, it was nearly all St. Thomas.  The Tommies scored in each inning except the third.

The Royals were able to score three more runs, two of which came on solo home runs by Hegman and Carr.

Other highlights of the day include Bethel pitcher's keeping the league's leading hitter, Chris Bullis, hitless in six plate appearances, dropping his average 47 points.

Meanwhile, Churchill was a combined 5-for-8 and Hegman was a combined 4-for-8.

Bethel falls to 14-14 overall and 4-7 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas improves to 21-5 overall and 10-0 in conference play.  The Royals are scheduled to take on Concordia-Moorhead tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in a doubleheader at Hargis Park for their next games.
