Nautsch scores 28, but Royals fall to Cobbers 79-67

February 9, 2008

Annegret Nautsch
Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- Annegret Nautsch (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) posted her 12th double-double of the season and matched a season high scoring performance by netting 28 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  Unfortunately, it would not be enough as the Royals, trying to break a five game losing streak, fell to the visiting Concordia Cobbers by a score of 79-67.

The Royals and Cobbers entered a see-saw battle early on, but Concordia began using a trap defense that prevented Bethel from getting the ball into Nautsch for several possessions.  The Cobbers pulled away for good just before the half at 37-31.

Kiersten Hansen (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had another strong performance with 15 points on 4-for-11 shooting from the floor, and 7-for-8 shooting from the line.  Hansen's aggressiveness on offense helped her draw contact while heading to the basket, but her aggressiveness on defense led her to foul out with 1:20 remaining.

Lakita Davis (Jr., Brooklyn Center, Minn.) came in off the bench to score nine points and grab seven rebounds in her 16 minutes, while Erica Hormig (So., Windom, Minn.) contributed eight points and four rebounds.

Concordia shot nearly 54-percent from behind the arc, compared to Bethel's 13-percent.  The Cobbers Maggie Bauernfeind accounted for three of their seven three pointers by shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the perimeter and finished with 15 points.  Melanie Hagemam led Concordia with 22 points and six rebounds.  Sara Sorbo also finished in double figures by hitting each of her six free throws and shooting 2-for-5 from the floor.

The loss drops Bethel to 9-12 overall and 6-12 in MIAC play.  Concordia improves to 14-7 overall and 13-5 in the conference.  Bethel will tip off against St. Olaf at the Robertson Center next Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. for their next game.
