Box Score
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals leap-frogged to third place in the MIAC standings with a thrilling 70-66 win over Carleton tonight at the Robertson Center.
Mike Much (So., Champlin, Minn.) came off the bench to replace an injured
Cory Laugen* (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) to score 10 points and grab eight rebounds. Much put three of his four offensive rebounds back in for points, including a buzzer beater at the end of the first half to send the Royals into the locker room with a 32-30 lead and some game momentum.
The Royals and Knights played neck and neck for most of the game as there were eight ties and 12 lead changes. Carleton's three-point shooting kept them in the game as they shot 13-for-27 from behind the arc. However, Bethel was able to out-rebound Carleton by almost a 2-1 margin, limiting the Knights to just two offensive rebounds during the entire game.
Tim Madson (Jr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) led all scorers with 22 points on 9-for-19 shooting from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line. Bethel only went to the free throw line five times during the game, but made each one count.
Mike Moberg (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) earned another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, as well as two blocks.
Nick Otterson (Jr., St. Paul, MInn.) also finished the night in double figures, scoring 11 points, including a clutch three-pointer to put Bethel up by one down the stretch.
Zach Johnson, Tommy Drake, and newly crowned MIAC Player of the Week Bryan Rosett accounted for 48 of Carleton's points on the night. Johnson shot 4-for-6 from three-point land to finish with 17, Rosett made seven of his eight free throws and finished with 16, while Drake did a majority of his shooting from the perimeter as well to close the night with 15 points.
Bethel improves to 12-7 overall and 8-6 in MIAC play. The win helps Bethel overtake an idle Concordia, as well as Carleton and Saint John's in the standings. The Knights fall to 8-7 in the conference and 13-7 overall. The Royals will take on first place St. Thomas at 7:30 p.m. at the Robertson Center on Wednesday for their next game.
