WINONA, Minn. - Bethel claimed their first conference victory by defeating host Saint Mary's 8-1 tonight.

The Royals swept through the doubles competition to go up 3-0 heading into singles play.  Tom Ronning (So., Alexandria, Minn.) improved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Tom Vollman 7-6, 6-4. 

Jordan McIver (So., Alexandria, Minn.) also won his singles match 6-1, 6-1, making him 3-1 in competition so far. 

Jordan LeFebvre (So., Roseville, Minn.) rallied to win his second set 6-2 after falling 7-5 in the first to force a tiebreaker.  Unfortunately for the Royals, LeFebvre's opponent, Steve Clements prevailed in the tiebreaker to prevent the overall sweep.

Bethel is now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in MIAC play, while Saint Mary's drops to 0-3 both overall and in conference play.  The Royals will travel down to St. Peter, Minn., to take on perennial MIAC powerhouse Gustavus this Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.
