BLAINE, Minn. - Royals captain
Kent Bostrom (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) scored with 17 seconds remaining in the third period to lift Bethel to a 3-2 win over the Marian University Sabres today. Bostrom has now had at least one point in each of the Royals' first four games.
Bethel trailed for the entire game, falling back 1-0 at 8:33 into the first period when Ryan Hitchcock scored for the Sabres with the help of Jason Ford and James Goodfellow. The Sabres tacked on another goal, scored by Chris Thompson with assists by Brendan Hull and Lane Boswell, at 7:21 in the second period to go up by two goals.
The Royals finally answered with a power play goal by
Brad Peterson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn. - pictured right) at the

11:24 mark of the second period with the help of
Chris Fiala (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.). Before the period was out, Bethel knotted up the score at 2-2 thanks to a goal by Tom Menozzi (So., Lakeville, Minn.), with an assists going to Christian Fogerty (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) and
Blake Jenkins (Fr., Brookfield, Wis.).
The third period proved to be a critical defensive battle, with both teams taking the same number of shots on goal before Bostrom scored the game-winner as the clock was winding down. It was his first game winning goal of the season, and the eight of his career.
Bethel's two-time All-MIAC goalie,
Aaron Damjanovich (Jr., Remer, Minn.) recorded 33 saves on the afternoon to help him earn his 33rd career win.
The Royals are now 3-0-1 overall, while Marian falls to 2-2-2 on their season. Bethel is scheduled to begin conference play next Friday night when they take on Augsburg at 7 p.m. at home.
