BLAINE, Minn.
- After a successful road trip that saw the Bethel Royals begin their season 2-0 with a pair of wins over U of M Crookston last weekend, they returned home to face the Marian University Sabres tonight. Despite holding a 3-1 lead heading into the third period, the Royals and Sabres finished in a 3-3 tie at the end of overtime.

Marian got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Todd Collins 6:36 into the game with the help of Justin Cormier and Nick Cinquegrani. However, Bethel came right back and answered just over a minute later when Eric Adams (Sr., Litchfield, Minn.) put the biscuit in the basket, assisted by Brent Kettelkamp (Sr., Richfield, Minn.).

The Royals broke a 1-1 tie later in the period when Drew Dammen (Sun Prairie, Wis.) scored thanks to assists by both Kyle Dynan (Jr., Orono, Minn.) and Jake Kogler (Fr., Forest Lake, Minn.). Chris Fiala (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) made the score 3-1 with just 1:38 left in the second period when he scored with the help of captain Kent Bostrom (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.).

But the Sabres did not go down without a fight. Less than 45 seconds into the third period, Adam Freeman scored with the help of Kyle Rasmussen to cut the Royals lead to one. Then, at the 8:18 mark, Zack Fray connected with James Goodfellow to tie the game at 3-3.

The score would stay locked up throughout the rest of regulation and the five minute overtime period to give the Royals their first tie of the season. Bethel was only able to capitalize on one of their seven power play opportunities, while Marian was one for four.

Aaron Damjanovich (Jr., Remer, Minn. - pictured right) stopped 21 of the 24 shots he faced, while his counterpart, Jason Jadczak, stopped 25 of the 28 shots that came his way.

Bethel is now 2-0-1 overall, while Marian is 2-1-2. The two teams are scheduled to face off against each other tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bethel University Arena.
