ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Off to a great 3-0 start in their season, the Bethel University men's basketball team once again did not disappoint, crushing their opponent, University of Minnesota Morris, 76-52.
The Royals led the entire game, with the exception of the first point of the game. While the Cougars still had a fighting chance at the end of the first half, only 14 points behind the Royals, Bethel really opened up the game in the second half and squashed any hope that their opponent had. Bethel held U of M Morris at least 11 points away from them the rest of the game.
Leading the Royals in points with his second double-double of the season on 20 points and 11 rebounds was
Mike Moberg (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.). Following Moberg in points was
Tim Madson (Sr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) who finished the game with 16 points. Madson also had eight assists and four steals in the game.
Also contributing offensively for Bethel was
Chris Vavra (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) who had 12 points in the game and
Cory Laugen (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) who had eights points along with five steals for the Royals.
Kendall Proell of the Cougars led his team in points with 12, followed by Eric Dalbey who finished the game with 11 points.
The Royals finished the game with a 47.8 field goal percentage and shot 66 percent from the free throw line, making six of the nine shots.
The win improves Bethel to a 4-0 record, while U of M Morris falls to 0-3. The Royals are next scheduled to play their first conference game Dec. 3, at 7:30 at home in the Robertson Gym against the Saint John's Johnnies.
