ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Last night, the Bethel Royals left the Schwan's Super Rink not only frustrated, but also disappointed after their 2-1 overtime loss to the Saint Benedict Blazers. This afternoon, it was the Royals turn to frustrate the Blazers as they came away from the Municipal Athletic Complex with a 1-0 victory.

Bethany Murphy-Aultman (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored the lone goal of the game at the 14:04 mark of the first period with the help of Allison Papko (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba). From that point on, the two teams played a very defensive and disciplined game.

Bethel was penalized just once during the game, while Saint Benedict players only spent a collective eight minutes in the penalty box. The Royals outshot the Blazers 27-17 with 18 of those shots coming in the first period alone.

Three-time All-MIAC goaltender Beth Spurrier (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) earned her first shutout of the season and the 12th of her career, which is among the best for active MIAC goalies.

The win gives Bethel a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 3-4. Saint Benedict moves to 2-2 in the MIAC and 4-2 overall. The Royals will get a week off from competition and are scheduled to return to the ice to take on nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
