Box Score
BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel Royals hosted the Augsburg Auggies tonight for the first game of the MIAC season. However, the previously winless Auggies one-upped the Royals and skated away with a 4-3 win.
Augsburg struck first on a power play five minutes into the game when Nick Guran and Chris Slavik connected with Chris Johnson who put the puck in the net.
The score would remain 1-0 in Augsburg's favor for almost the next 20 minutes of game time. That's when
Brad Peterson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) scored a power play goal of his own with the help of
Kyle Dynan (Jr., Orono, Minn.) and
Kent Bostrom (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.). Less than seven minutes later, Bethel would take its only lead of the night when
John Kovacs (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored, with assists going to Peterson and
Chad Herzog (Fr., Champlin, Minn.).
With the score now 2-1 in Bethel's favor, Augsburg came charging back and went on to score the next three goals to go up 4-2. Bostrom, the hero of last Saturday's game, managed to cut the Royals deficit to just one goal with 1:16 remaining in the game with an assist going to
Brent Kettelkamp (Sr., Richfield, Minn.), but it would prove to be too little, too late.
The Royals pulled two-time All-MIAC goalie
Aaron Damjanovich (Jr., Remer, Minn.) to skate with a man advantage, but to no avail. The Auggie defense held fast and preserved their win.
For Bethel, it was their first loss of the season, and they are now 3-1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Augsburg earns their first win of the season and is now 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC. The two teams are scheduled to face off against each other again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena on the Auggie campus in Minneapolis.
