NORTHFIELD, Minn. - It's been a while since the Royals have had something to cheer about. After setting new school records for most games without a loss and having the best start to a season, the women's soccer team has been held scoreless since their game with St. Thomas more than three weeks ago.
But a ray of hope shone upon the Bethel women's soccer squad this afternoon, if only for a brief moment. The Royals broke out of their five-game scoring slump 76:19 into their conference match-up with the St. Olaf Oles to tie it at 1-1.
Brittany Griffore (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) scored her second collegiate goal with the help of
Kristin Kishaba (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.) to give the Royals some momentum. However, that momentum all but came to a screeching halt little more than a minute later as Allyson Connor was able to get the ball past Bethel goalkeeper
Charli Sorensen (Sr., Park Ridge, Ill.) for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
With her six saves tonight, Sorensen is now at 525 in her career, which means she needs just four more saves to set a new school record.
Sorensen could set the record this Saturday when the Royals are scheduled to travel down to St. Peter, Minn., to take on Gustavus Adolphus at 11 a.m. Bethel is currently 6-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the MIAC. St. Olaf improves to 7-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference with the win today.
