CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Bethel Royals began their season tonight by defeating the University of Minnesota at Crookston by a score of 2-1.
Christian Fogerty (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) got the Royals on the board just over three minutes into the game on a power play, assisted by three-time All-MIAC player and captain,
Kent Bostrom (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.), and alternate captain
Brad Peterson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.).
Both Bostrom and Peterson assisted the game-winning goal late in the second period when
Austin Hatch (Fr., Cloquet, Minn.) scored to put Bethel up 2-0.
The Golden Eagles were able to cut their deficit in half when Jonathan Frank scored less than six minutes into the third period, but the Royals were able to hang on thanks to 35 saves by two-time All-MIAC goalkeeper
Aaron Damjanovich (Jr., Remer, Minn.).
The win puts Bethel at 1-0 for the season, while Crookston drops to 0-1. The two teams are scheduled to face off against each other again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. in Crookston.
