ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- Call it incredibly lucky or extremely accurate, but the game-winning goal scored by Concordia's Mikenna Maroney was a shot that cleared the fully extended arms of Bethel goalkeeper Charli Sorensen (Sr., Park Ridge, Ill.), hit the bottom of the crossbeam, and bounced behind the line for the score with 1:06 remaining. As a result, the Royals had their three-game unbeaten streak snapped, and the 2-1 defeat added another page to a book of heartbreaking losses.

Bethel broke a scoreless tie at the 57:08 mark of the second half when Esther Sowles (Sr., Waconia, Minn.) scored her eight goal in the last four games and ninth of the season with the help of Brittany Griffore (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.). Sowles now has 27 goals in her career, just four shy of setting a new school record with one game left to play in her Bethel career.

The lead did not last long, though. The Cobbers scored almost six minutes later when Abby Habein found the back of the net with the help of Bekah Marcis to even the game at 1-1. The score would remain tied until Maroney's goal gave Concordia the win.

Sorensen had her work cut out for her and was able to stop 10 of Concordia's 12 shots. In addition to holding the school record for saves, Sorensen leads the conference in saves and saves per game average.

Bethel's record now falls to 8-7-2 overall and 1-7-2 in the MIAC, while Concordia improves to 6-2-2 in the conference and 11-3-3 overall. The Royals have one remaining game scheduled. They are set to take on Saint Mary's next Saturday at home beginning at 3 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
