ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Fresh from tournament play this past weekend, the Bethel Royals squared off against the Carleton Knights tonight at the Robertson Center. The Knights were unable to shield the Royal attack, as Bethel came away with a 3-1 (25-21, 27-29, 25-20, 25-23) victory.

All four sets were back and forth in points between the two teams from start to finish, with neither team ahead by more than five points at any time in the match. Despite the closely fought match, the Royals were able to step up in the end and put Carleton away.

Kelly Otto (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) led the charge tonight, racking up 17 points with 15 kills, one solo block, and two block assists. Nicole Wriedt (Fr., Pewaukee, Wis.) followed Otto in points with 11 kills, one solo block, and four block assists, totaling 14, which gives her seven straight matches of 10 or more points. Besty Naatjes (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) had a big impact on the court getting a total of 42 assists in the match to combine with her own 10 points.

The Royals also played tough at the net in the match. Jennifer Stoa (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) accounted for a solo block and six block assists of the team's 19 blocks this evening, which was more than double the Knights total blocks.

Megan La Chapelle was the Carleton high scorer of the match, with nine kills, three service aces, and one solo block, giving her a total of 13 points.

The win brings Bethel's record to 2-5 in the MIAC and 9-14 overall and Carleton falls to 4-3 in the MIAC and 9-11 overall.  The Royals are scheduled to continue conference play with a match against the Augsburg Auggies on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Minneapolis.
