ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Border Battle Tournament stood true to its name today as the Bethel Royals faced Simpson College Storm in last game in the tournament and battled to the very end, falling 3-2 in a neck-and-neck match.

Simpson jumped out in front, winning the first set 25-17, but Bethel fought back to take the next two, 25-21 and 25-22, respectively. Not giving up yet, the Storm won the fourth set 25-16, bringing the match to a deciding fifth set.  Bethel played tough, but Simpson took the set 15-8, and the victory, 3-2.

Nicole Wriedt (Fr., Pewaukee, Wis.) led all scorers with 23 points on 21 kills, a solo block, and two block assists. Equally as impressive as the number of kills she tallied was her .500 hitting percentage for the match, as she committed only four attack errors in 34 attempts.

Co-captain Jennifer Stoa (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was Bethel's next highest scorer with 13.5 points on 10 kills and seven block assists.  Kelly Otto (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) also reached double digits with 10.5 points on nine kills, a solo block, and a block assist.

The Royals finish the tournament 2-2, which brings their overall record to 8-14 and Simpson is now 16-9 overall. Bethel is scheduled to get back to conference play on Wednesday, Oct.15, at 7 p.m. against Carleton at home in the Robertson Center.
