Royals topped by Gusties 2-0

ST. PETER, Minn. -  Hitting the field right after the women's soccer team, the Bethel men's soccer team took on Gustavus, but unable to get a shot on net, the Royals fell 2-0 to the Gusties.

The Royals were able to hold off the Gusties, ranked #6 in the West Region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas poll, for much of the game as both goals came late in the second half of the game. The first Gustavus goal was put in by Bret Vander Streek, assisted by Flynn StewartFransen, at the 79:55 minute mark of the game.  Just under five minutes later the Gusties put away their second and final goal at 84:12 by Max Malmquist, assisted by Vander Streek.

Bethel had three attempted shots in the game, but left the Gustie goalkeeper untested. Bethel goalkeeper, Nick Kantor (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) made six saves in the match, placing him second in the MIAC for saves with 77 and saves per game averaging 7.0.

Bethel is now 1-6 in MIAC play and 2-10 overall and Gustavus is now 6-1 in MIAC play and 10-2-1 overall. The Royals are scheduled to travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to face Presentation College on Oct. 15 at 3 p.m.
