Bethel sweeps Wartburg 3-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel's game against Wartburg College of Waverly, Iowa, wrapped up today's first round of the annual Border Battle Tournament taking place at the University of St. Thomas today and tomorrow. The Royals defeated the Knights 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21) to help the four MIAC teams improve to 8-0 against the four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) teams in the tournament.

Leading the Royals in points was Chelsea Falck (Sr., DeForest, Wis.) who had six kills, four service aces, and three block assists, giving her a total of 11.5 points for the match. Close behind her was Jennifer Stoa (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) with 10.5 points in the match consisting of nine kills and three block asissts. Following Stoa was Nicole Wriedt (Fr., Pewaukee, Wis.) who had 10 kills, totalling for 10 points.

Bethel improves to 8-12 overall with the win, while Wartburg, who hosted the Border Battle Tournament last year, falls to 7-16 overall. The Royals, now winners of three of their last four sets, are scheduled to resume play in the tournament tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. against Head Coach Gretchen Hunt's alma mater, Central College. Bethel defeated Central, who was nationally ranked at the time, for the first time under Coach Hunt earlier this season at the UW-Whitewater Tournament.
