Royals defeated by Gusties 3-0

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - With sights set on their first conference win, the Royals took on a tough Gustavus team, but left empty handed with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) defeat.

The Royals were led in points by Kelly Otto (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) with seven kills and five block assists giving her 9.5 points in the match.  Co-captain Chelsea Falck (Sr., DeForest, Wis.) was the next highest scorer with seven kills, one solo block, and one block assist, totaling to 8.5 points.

Bethel diversified their attack with two different setters. Betsy Naatjes (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Kate Smith (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) led the team with 15 assists in the match, followed by Smith's nine.

Meghan Gehring of  Gustavus led the team with 12 kills, one service ace, and two block assists, for a total of 14 points.

The Royals are now 0-4 in MIAC play and 5-11 overall and the Gusties are 3-1 in MIAC play and 15-2 overall. The Royals are scheduled to play their next match against host and conference opponent Macalester on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
