ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - For much of Bethel's game against Saint Benedict, it looked as though the Royals might be able to do what they had not done in more than 10 years*, and that's defeat the Saint Benedict Blazers.
Unfortunately for Bethel, it was not to be, as they fell 63-57.
The Royals and Blazers were knotted up at 57 with just 1:37 remaining, but Saint Benedict scored six unanswered points in the last 30 seconds of the game to claim the victory.
Lakita Davis (Jr., Brooklyn Center, Minn.) led Bethel scorers with 12 points, despite playing just 13 minutes.
Shari Laugen (So., Blaine, Minn.) scored 11 points, while
Annegret Nautsch tallied 10.
The Blazers were led by Judy Favley who had 14 points, and Danielle Frank who had 12 points as well as 12 rebounds.
The loss drops Bethel to 2-3 in the MIAC and 5-3 overall. Saint Benedict moves to 3-2 in conference play and 5-3 overall as well. The Royals will try to rebound and get back on the winning track when they tip off against St. Thomas next Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Robertson Center.
*Bethel last defeated Saint Benedict on February 7, 1996.
