ST. PAUL, Minn.
- Reigning MIAC Player of the Week Tim Madson (Jr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) scored 25 points to lead the Royals past the Pipers 79-69 in a key conference match up today.  Bethel got back on the winning track after having had their four game winning streak snapped by Augsburg at the beginning of the week.

The Royals lead 41-32 at the half and seldom trailed all afternoon.  In the second half they opened up a 16 point lead before Hamline crept back into the game, cutting their lead to as little as five with less than three minutes to play.

The two teams played a relatively even game statistically.  However, Bethel held Hamline to just 4-for-21 shooting from the perimeter and the Royals made all but three of their 24 free throws.

Madson led all scorers by shooting 8-for-13 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from behind the arc, and a perfect 7-for-7 from the line.  Three other Royals joined him in double figures, including Cory Laugen (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) with 19, Shane Flannery (So., Lakeville, Minn.) with 17, and Mike  Moberg (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) with 10.

The Pipers were led by Tony Thrasher with 17 points, Tanner Anderson with 15, and Eric Clute with 11.

Bethel earns a season series split and maintains their hold on 6th place in the MIAC with the win.  They are now 6-5 in the conference and 10-6 overall.  Meanwhile, Hamline falls to 5-7 in MIAC play and 7-10 overall.  The Royals return to the Robertson Center to take on Gustavus Adolphus next Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
