BLAINE, Minn. - After falling to the #5 ranked Gustavus Gusties in last weekend's series, the Royals were looking to boost their win column total in the conference. However, Concordia-Moorhead had other plans for Bethel, as they fell 3-1 to the Cobbers this evening.
Concordia got on the board first after Kayla Thorson poked the puck away from a Bethel defender and went on to score a shorthanded goal to make the score 1-0.
In the second period, the Royals skated with a two player advantage for close to a minute and a half, but were unable to capitalize. The Cobbers scored two more goals to make it 3-0 at the end of two periods.
Bethel came back in the third and was able to score when
Bethany Murphy-Aultman (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) found the back of the net with the help of newcomer
Emily Elder (Fr., Rock Springs, Wyo.). The Royals then made the puck cross the line again later in the period, but had the goal called off by the referees. In a last ditch effort to score, Bethel pulled goalie
Beth Spurrier (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) to skate with a player advantage, but to no avail.
The Royals fall to 3-6 in the conference with the loss and 6-8-1 overall. The Cobbers improve to 5-2-2 in the MIAC and 5-7-2 overall. The same two teams will face off against each other tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bethel University Arena at the Schwan's Super Rink.
