ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals used a spread out scoring attack and a high shooting percentage to win their fourth straight MIAC contest 98-79 over Saint Mary's today at the Robertson Center.
Bethel was nearly flawless shooting from the floor in the first half, making 12 of their 14 three-point shots to shoot 23-for-28 total. The Royals went into the locker room leading 65-38 at halftime.
Things cooled down a little bit in the second half, but Bethel still finished shooting better than 65-percent from the floor. In total, the Royals sank 16 three-pointers, just three shy of tying a school single game record.
Nick Otterson (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) led the way for the Royals with 19 points, including four three-pointers. Each of Bethel's four remaining starters scored in the double digits, with
Cory Laugen (Jr., Blaine, Minn.),
Tim Madson (Jr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) and
Shane Flannery (So., Lakeville, Minn.) each scoring 13.
Tyler Brown (So., Chanhassen, Minn.) also scored 13 points, eight of which he earned at the free throw line.
Mike Moberg (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) was effective down in the paint, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds on the afternoon, as Saint Mary's struggled to find a good defensive match for him.
The Cardinals were led by two freshmen - Lukas Holland and Will Wright. Holland got the hot hand in the second half and finished with 26, while Wright was effective in both halves, scoring 17 for the game.
The win pushes Bethel over .500 in MIAC play. They are now 5-4 in the conference and 9-5 overall. Saint Mary's drops to 1-8 in the conference and 1-13 overall. The Royals will play Augsburg at 7:45 p.m. on Monday in Minneapolis for their next game.
