ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -
After dropping two out of three games last week against two of the top three teams in the MIAC, the Royals came into tonight's game looking to get back on track against a 3-5 Macalester team.  Unfortunately, the Scots had other plans.

Macalester and Bethel played an almost even game statistically, but the Royals were unable to score in the waning seconds of the game and fell to the Scots 70-69 at home.

Bethel headed to the locker room at half time holding a 32-28 lead thanks to a spread out scoring attack.  However, Macalester came back strong in the second half and led by as many as seven before Bethel came back to take a one-point lead on a Gabriella Gustafson (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) free throw with 34 seconds remaining.  However, the Royals were unable to stop Ann Baltzer from scoring two of her 20 points of the evening on the Scots ensuing possession, which proved to be the game winning basket.

Baltzer grabbed 10 rebounds on the night for a double-double, while the Scots Trina PaStarr led all scorers with 24 points.

Annegret Nautsch (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) once again led Bethel with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and seven blocks.  Shari Laugen continued her strong play with 14 points, five assists, and three steals.  She was 5-for-10 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.

Gustafson and Erica Hormig (So., Windom, Minn.) accounted for 22 of Bethel's points by scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.

With the loss, the Royals drop to 3-6 in the MIAC and 6-6 overall.  Meanwhile, Macalester improves to 4-5 in the conference and 5-7 overall.  Bethel will try to snap their two game losing streak when they tip off against Saint Mary's this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Robertson Center for their next game.
