ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- As the St. John's Johnnies entered Hargis Park the Royals were still in the playoff hunt if they could just manage a sweep. Meanwhile, the Johnnies could clinch the final MIAC playoff spot with two wins of their own. It was senior day for the Royals as it was their last home game of the year and the team played well, but could not get that clutch hit with runners on. The games were close as the Royal pitching kept the offense in the game.

In game one, the second inning produced the first run of the game for the Johnnies as Brandon Royce-Diop doubled in Jeff Ostrom. Jay Kasner would make the score 2-0 after he hit his seventh homerun of the year in the top of the third. The Royals would strike for their first run in the fourth after doubles by Tyler Kramer and Dana Hegman, cutting the lead in half.

St. John's came right back to put one more on the board in the top of the fifth. Matt Meyer would drive in John Heinbigner on a single to make it 3-1. Bethel would run into some trouble in the seventh as the Johnnies scored two more runs on two hits and a Royal error. Leading off the bottom half Kirby Carr hit his 11th homerun of the year to spark a comeback, but the Royals could not muster up any more runs and dropped the game 5-2.

Travis Adams pitched all seven innings for Bethel giving up five runs, four earned scattering eight hits while striking out five in the loss. He moves to 3-4 on the year. Johnnie pitcher T.J. Nelson would also go the whole seven letting in two on four hits and improves to 5-0.

The second game started with Kasner's second homerun in the top of the first and then another in the third as he hit his third of the day. St. John's would add to the lead in the sixth, getting two more on a Heinbigner single. They would score one more in the seventh to get the win 5-0.

Matt Pokorn pitched well giving up four runs in 5 1/3 innings on nine hits, adding four strikeouts. Kyle McCracken came in for relief and would surrender one run on three hits in 1 2/3 innings of work. Lefty Adam Johnson pitched well for the Johnnies giving up only two hits in the game, he goes to 3-2. Pokorn recorded the loss and falls to 2-3 on the year.

The Royals will now take on Augsburg College Monday, May 7 at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota campus for their final action of the year. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
