PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.
- The Royals started slow Wednesday against Sewanee - University of the South giving up an early 2-0 lead in the second. Bethel, however, came right back in the bottom of the third as they scored four runs. Brandon Carr and Garrett Kramer each scored on a single from Kris Pulford and the next batter Kirby Carr would bring Pulford in as he blasted a two run homerun to move the score to 4-2. The Royals would continue from there when in the bottom of the fourth they scored four runs and in the fifth added three more as they started to pepper the field with hits. Sewanee would score three runs of their own in the top half of the fifth leaving the score at 11-5. The Royals wouldn't pass the plate again but were able to hold on as they defeated the Tigers 11-9.

Charlie Zak threw for the Royals and went five innings while only letting up four hits. The field behind him was not as solid as usual which led to five runs on his watch, only one of which was earned. Ben Turnwall gave a good effort in his first varsity pitching experience. He let in four runs in four innings after getting into a little trouble in the eighth inning. The team didn't play its' best ball but came out with the win in the end.

The Royals next game was against the #5 ranked team in the nation, the UW-Stevens Point Pointers. The game started off very slow for Bethel as they trailed 1-0 after six innings. The top of the seventh was a different story for the Royals as they scored all seven of their runs in the inning. Tyler Kramer started things out with a single and was then driven home on a John Buteyn single for the first run. Buteyn was followed by two walks to load the bases and Brandon Carr singled to bring in the Royals second run and give the team their first lead.

With two outs, Bethel was given a chance to add more when the Pointers first baseman dropped a foul ball keeping the team alive. The Royals took advantage as the hits kept coming and the team added five more runs in the inning. That would be all the run support they would need as the team captured the 7-4 upset win.

Pitching for the Royals was Isaac Hamilton and Travis Adams. Hamilton threw his best game of the year holding the fifth ranked team to seven hits and only one earned run over seven and one third innings. He gave a courageous effort on the hill as he spotted his pitches and worked through errors in the field. He consistently took the mound and made it his own and shut down the Pointers.

Adams came in for two and two thirds innings for the save and gave up only one hit. The pitchers had a great day and kept the Royal hitters in the game until they could get things going. The Royals will hope to keep the momentum as they play St. Norbert College on Thursday, March 22 at 3 p.m.
