BLAINE, Minn. - The Royals came away with a 5-1 win over St. Olaf in the semifinal round of the MIAC playoffs Thursday night. Bethel won in convincing fashion out-shooting the Oles 39-22.
The Oles would score first as they got on the board early thanks to a Dylan Mueller goal, but the high powered Bethel attack would come roaring back scoring two goals in the first, two in the second and one in the third advancing the Royals to the MIAC Championship game.
A balanced attack again led the Bethel offense as 11 different players earned a point and five different players scored goals.
Kent Bostrom,
Patrick Dynan and
Benoit Duhamel led the way as each earned two points on the night. Bostrom and Dynan each picked up a goal and an assist, while Duhamel finished with two assists. Other goals came from
Matt Hall,
Brent Kettelkamp, and Nate Peasly who scored the game winner.
Nick Miller,
Jeff Balvin,
Dan Bonne,
Rory Dynan, and
Steve Eastman all added an assist for Bethel. Bethel goaltender
Aaron Damjanovich was strong again moving his record to 11-2-0 in his last 13 starts as he recorded 21 saves in the win.
St. Olaf goaltender, Jeff Wilde was tested most of the night and came away with a strong 34 saves in the losing effort.
Bethel improves to 16-9-1 overall while St. Olaf closes the season at 11-14-2. The Royals will now host St. Thomas on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the MIAC Championship game at the Schwan's Super Rink. St. Thomas advanced to the Championship game after a 3-1 win over Augsburg in the other Semifinal match-up. There will be no additional advanced sell of tickets for Saturday's game. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and ticket's can be purchased at the gate.
