BLAINE, Minn.- The Bethel women's hockey team couldn't hold on to an early lead as they went on to tie the St. Mary's Cardinals 3-3. Bethel was able to connect on a power play and short handed goal in the first 10 minutes of the game, but St. Mary's responded with three goals of their own, including two shorthanded. Bethel also led in shots on goal, 30-28.
Bethel was led by Bethany Murphy's two goal, one assist night. Amy Beitzel also had a nice night of one goal and one assist, while Sarah Worch and Julien Olsen also recorded assists. The Royals' goaltender, Beth Spurrier, had 25 saves on the night.
St. Mary's had three different players score goals, including Jilly Rhody, Jessica Ribish and Amy Madden. All three of there goals came in the second period, and were assisted twice by Rachel Harrison and once by Madden. The Cardinals' goalie, Nikki Jung, recorded 27 saves, including four overtime saves.
Bethel is now 6-11-3 overall with a 5-7-3 MIAC record. St. Mary's moves to 7-12-3 overall with a 7-6-2 MIAC record. Bethel 's next game is this Saturday at St. Mary's. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
