Box Score
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -
Shari Laugen (So., Blaine, Minn.) scored on a layup with 1:13 left in the game to put Bethel up by one point. The lead would not hold, however, as Carleton's Annie Isler broke the 11th tie of the game with a field goal to give the Knights a two-point lead, and eventually the win, 79-77 over the Royals.
Once again,
Annegret Nautsch (Jr., Seattle, Wash.)showed why she was deserving of MIAC Player of the Week honors by scoring 22 points and grabbing 14 rebounds for her fifth consecutive double-double. She also added three blocks, giving her 14 in just six games.
Laugen scored a season high 18 points in her 31 minutes. Three of those points helped give Bethel a one-point lead with just over two minutes left. She made a basket and was fouled, sending her to the free throw line to complete the three-point play.
Carleton, who began the season ranked second in the coaches preseason poll, led by as many as 10 points in the second half. But Bethel went on a 8-0 run, thanks largely to two 3-pointers by Gabriella Gustafson (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.). Gustafson finished the night with 19 points.
The Knights Sarah Lincoln led all scorers with 25 points by going 9-12 from the field, including 3-5 from behind the 3-point line and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
The loss drops Bethel to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in MIAC play. Carleton's remains undefeated in the conference at 4-0 and improves to 5-1 overall. The Royals will not play their next game for nearly a month, as they will take on Northwestern at home in a non-conference game on Jan. 2, 2008.
