BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel women's hockey team got all they needed when they scored two goals in the second period and defeated UW-Eau Claire 2-1 in the season opener at the National Sports Center.
Sandra Felten, Julien Olson, and Bethany Murphy-Aultman helped account for both goals in the game for the Royals. Felten (Jr., Cashton, WI) scored on a breakaway with the help of Olson (Sr., Minneapolis, MN) and Murphy-Aultman (Jr., Grand Rapids, MN) early in the 2nd.
Later in the period, it was Olson's turn to hit the back of the net. Both Felten and Murphy-Aultman were credited with the assist.
Defensively, two-time All-MIAC selection Beth Spurrier (Jr., Plymouth, MN) stopped 13 of 14 shots on the night, with the lone Blugold goal going to UW Eau Claire's Maddi Hammer 13:35 into the 3rd period.
The Royals start the season 1-0-0 and will face off against the 0-1-0 Blugold again tomorrow afternoon in Eau Claire at 2 p.m.
