BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel men's hockey team continued their winning ways by shutting out the University of Minnesota Crookston 4-0 at home to start the 2007-08 season.
The defending MIAC champion Royals scored once in the first period and never looked back. Christian Fogerty (Fr., Forest Lake, MN) started Bethel's scoring 8:24 into the game, unassisted.
Kent Bostrom (Jr., Vadnais Heights, MN) tacked on Bethel's next goal early in the 2nd period with the help of Jeff Balvin (Sr., Maple Grove, MN) and Matt Hall (Sr., Brooklyn Park, MN) to put the Royals up 2-0. Balvin got a goal of his own, unassisted, just past the midway point of the period for Bethel's next goal, and Dan Bonne (Sr., White Bear Lake, MN) wrapped up Bethel's scoring with a goal less than a minute after Balvin's with the help of Brad Peterson (Jr., Bloomington, MN) making the score 4-0.
All-MIAC goalie Aaron Damjanovich (So., Remer, MN) recorded 26 saves and his first shutout of the season for the Royals.
Bethel starts off the season 1-0-0 and will face off against UMN Crookston again tomorrow at Bethel University Arena starting at 2 p.m.
