BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel women's hockey team is only in its 9th season, but they added another team “first” today by defeating St. Thomas 2-0 at Bethel University Arena at the Schwan's Super Rink.

Kassy Sullivan (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) scored with the help of Bethany Murphy-Aultman (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Kelsey Martalock (Fr., Tomah, Wis.)  with 4:31 left in the second period to put Bethel up 1-0.

Aultman-Murphy then scored an empty net goal with 13 seconds remaining to give the Royals their first win against the Tommies in 19 meetings.

Beth Spurrier (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) blocked all 25 St. Thomas shots to record her first shutout of the season.

The Royals improve to 1-1-0 in MIAC play and 2-2-1 overall.  The loss drops the Tommies, who had received votes on the latest USCHO.com DIII poll, to 1-1-0 in conference and 3-1-0 overall.
