Royals win Chanticlear Pizza Tip-Off Tournament with 85-78 win over Bethany Lutheran

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Three players scored double digits for Bethel as they went on to win the Chanticlear Pizza Tip-Off Tournament championship game over Bethany Lutheran College 85-78.

Tim Madson (Jr., Redwood Falls, Minn.) led the charge for the Royals with 24 points and 3 assists.  He was also a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.

Cory Laugen (Jr. Blaine, Minn.) had 13 points and 7 assists, while Jeff Reck (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) had 14 points, including a clutch 3-pointer in the last two minutes to put the game out of reach.

Tommy Saffert led Vikings scorers with 18 points.

The Royals shot 55-percent from beyond the 3-point line, hitting six out of eight in the second half.

Bethel improves to 2-0 on the season while Bethany Lutheran drops to 1-1.  The Royals hit the road for their next game to play the University of Minnesota Morris at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Trinity International University defeated Martin Luther College 91-73 to win the consolation game.
