Bethel drops conference opener to St. Thomas 3-0

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – St. Thomas got one goal in each period and defeated the Bethel Royals 3-0 to begin Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Royals were unable to capitalize on any of their six power play opportunities, while the Tommies were 1-4 when skating with an advantage.

St. Thomas got goals from Katie Carrico, Kara Ledel, and Kristen Grossman.  Ashley Reinhardt had two assists on the night.

Beth Spurrier (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) made 35 saves as the Tommies nearly doubled the Royals shots on goal, 38-20.

Bethel falls to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in MIAC play while St. Thomas improves to 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.  The two teams face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bethel University Arena at the Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
