Royals end season on positive note, defeat St. Mary's 2-0 for first conference win

October 27, 2007

Andreas Scott

WINONA, Minn. - Better late than never, as the saying goes.  Bethel got two goals from Andreas Scott (Fr., Cedar, MN) to win their first conference game, 2-0, on the last game of the season.

The Royals had not scored at all in the month of October, a drought of more than 625 minutes of game time, until Scott found the back of the net at the 20:36 mark of the first half.  Jake Haws (Sr., Fergus Falls, MN) got the assist in his final game for the Royals.

Scott struck again just 12 minutes later when Matt Polding (Jr., Waconia, MN) helped him score his 4th goal of the season to put Bethel up 2-0 for good.

Nick Kantor (So., Buffalo, MN) had a relatively easy day in the net for the Royals, as he only had to stop one shot on goal.  The shutout was his first solo effort of the year.  He and Kevin Kelly (So., Duluth, MN) combined for a 2-0 shutout of Dordt College back on Sept. 20.

In addition to Haws, three other seniors ended their playing careers today: Bryce Bohne (Sr., Circle Pines, MN), Matt Duer (Sr., Andover, MN), and Andrew Heiligenthal.

Bethel closes out the season 1-9 in conference and 4-14-0 overall.  St. Mary's remained the lone winless team in MIAC play, dropping to 0-10 on the season and 4-13-1 overall.  Prior to today's game, Bethel defeated St. Mary's 4-2 on Oct. 24, 2006, for their last conference win.
