March 24, 2006

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla.
- The Bethel Royals continued to struggle in Ft. Myers , getting swept by Lawrence 10-6 and 8-3. Bethel's offense seemed to come around in game one as they scored six runs on 12 hits, but in game two only managed three runs on four hits.

Game one was very tight throughout as Lawrence scored two runs in the first, with Bethel scoring one of their own on a two-out bases-loaded single by Tyler Kramer (Maplewood, MN). Lawrence added another in the fifth but the Royals answered back with three runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead. The inning was capped by a two-RBI single by Mike Gaustad (Fergus Falls, MN). The Royals couldn't hold the lead however, as Lawrence scored three in the sixth on three hits and a costly error, making the score 6-4. Bethel did come back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh as they strung four two-out singles together to send the game into extra innings. The top of the eighth wasn't kind to the Royals though, as Lawrence put together four runs and four hits to come away with the win. Gaustad had two hits and two RBI in the game, and Kramer added three hits and two RBI for the Royals.

Game two was another tough game for the Royals, as they only mustered four hits – two each by Brandon and Kirby Carr (Fergus Falls, MN) – to go along with three runs. The Royals dug themselves a 7-1 hole as Lawrence scored in each of the first four innings, including two home-runs. The Royals scored in the fifth and the seventh but could not put enough offense together to come back. This was the first time of the season that the Royals (5-7) lost a pair in a double-header. They conclude their Spring trip with a double-header against Trinity College.
