FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bethel Baseball team earned its first sweep of the season with two wins over Babson College 5-4 and 7-3 in Ft. Myers on Monday. Leading the way for the Royals (5-4) was
Brandon Carr (Fergus Falls, MN) who went 6-8 with 1 RBI, 3 runs scored and 5 stolen bases over the two games.
In game one the Royals got on the board in the first when
Dane Hansen (Roseville, MN) drove in
Brandon Carr on a sacrifice fly. Bethel added two more in the third as
Brandon Carr doubled, followed by a two-run homerun to left field by
Kirby Carr (Fergus Falls, MN). Babson tied up the game in the bottom of the inning as they scored three runs on three hits. Bethel retook the lead on a sacrifice fly by
Kirby Carr following a Babson error to make the score 4-3. Babson managed to tie up the game in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI single, forcing the Royals to bat in the bottom of the inning. In textbook fashion the Royals scored a run on a walk by
Travis Wermedal (Wells, MN) followed by a sacrifice bunt and a game-winning single by
Brandon Carr.
Mike Moravec (Mora, MN) picked up the win in relief, but pitching a very solid game was sophomore
Isaac Hamilton (Chaska, MN) who gave up four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings.
In game two Babson took an early 1-0 lead, but the Royals scored seven runs over the next three innings to put the game out of reach. The big inning was the fourth as Bethel strung three straight hits together with two outs capped by a two run double by
Kris Pulford (Richfield, MN). Pulford finished the game 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. The Royals with play the Twins rookie team on Wednesday, followed by six games in three days to finish off the trip.
