ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel faced Hamline University Saturday afternoon in what turned out to be a great homecoming for the Royals. Bethel got back on the winning track defeating the Pipers 27-0 as they totaled 423 yards of total offense including 221 yards on the ground against what was the number two rushing defense in the nation. Star Running back Phil Porta left the game early in the second quarter with a shoulder injury but backup Ross Muellenberg filled in nicely in his first extensive action on the year, as he gained 123 yards on 19 carries. Sophomore quarterback Ben Wetzell completed 10 of 19 passes for Bethel as he racked up 185 yards, two TD's, two interceptions and a rushing TD. On the Receiving end senior John Croyle and freshman Kyle Lee teamed up for 143 yards receiving and two scores. The Bethel defense swarmed Hamlines offense holding them to a season low 161 total yards and only 29 rushing yards while amassing two interceptions, two forced fumbles, six sacks and 14 tackles for loss. Leading the attack was DE Zach Danielson who finished the afternoon with seven tackles, four TFL, and three sacks while S Kirby Carr had six tackles, one TFL, one interception and one punt block.

For Hamline quarterbacks, Andrew Seymour and James Leary combined for 132 yards passing on 30 attempts as both threw an interception. Brandon Johnson caught nine balls for 43 yards while Jeff Hanger had five receptions for 65 yards. On the defensive side Tyler Schultz finished with nine tackles and an interception for the Pipers while Chris Cushenberry added seven tackles.

Bethel moves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC, while Hamline falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC. Bethel has a Bye next week while Hamline travels to St. John's.
