Bethel sweeps Gustavus

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- The Royals swept Gustavus Wednesday afternoon with two convincing wins, 9-4 and 9-6.

Kirby Carr continued his dominating play as he went a collective 6-8 with two RBI's, two runs scored, and a HR in the series. The HR gives Carr seven on the year already tying his mark from last year. Numerous other Royals played extremely well as Mike Gausted, T. J. Therrien, Travis Wermedal, and Alex Garee all had a day combining for 17 hits, 12 RBI's, and 11 runs scored in the two games. Garee in particular lit things up going 4-5 including his 2nd HR on the year, while driving in eight runs on the afternoon. John Buteyn pitched a complete game in game one, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits running his record to a perfect 5-0. Winning pitcher Ryan Mahoney pitched a flawless four innings in game two before giving up six runs in the 5th inning. Luke Ludvigson came on in relief and pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 inning before giving way to Mike Gaustad, who pitched the seventh inning and recorded the save.

The Gusties were led in game one by A. Larsen who went 4-4 driving in and scoring a run on his HR while N. Bower led in game two going 2-2 with two RBI's and a run scored.

Bethel is now 11-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Royals await the weekend series travelling to St. Olaf Saturday, April 16. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
