November 6, 2004

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- Bethel used a balanced scoring attack and timely defensive and special team plays to beat Augsburg 24-10 in MIAC action.

Leading the way for the Royals was sophomore running back Phil Porta (Cambridge, Minn.) who rushed for 174 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Porta broke the single season rushing record at Bethel in the first half eclipsing Mike Johnson's 2001 record of 1,462. Porta has rushed for 1,589 yards with one game remaining in the season.

The difference in the game, however, were the four interceptions and special teams plays by Bethel. Twice Bethel faked punt attemps, one being a 30 yard recption to Kirby Carr (Fergus Falls, Minn.) down to the one yardline and then a 50 yard touchdown reception to Brandon Carr (Fergus Falls, Minn.) late in the third quarter to give the Royals the lead 14-10.

Bethel opened the scoring with a nine-yard run by receiver Zach Ludvigson (Minnetonka, Minn.). Augsburg answered with a 47-yard field goal and a 39-yard scoring strike from quarterback Marcus LeVesseur (Minneapolis, Minn.) to Ricky Schreider (Maplewood, Minn.) to put the Auggies ahead at half 10-7.

Bethel added a 22-yard field goal by Ludvigson and a touchdown by Porta in the fourth quarter to seal the win for Bethel.

The Royals host Gustavus next Saturday in the last regular season game of the year. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
