Bethel defeats St. John's for first time in school history

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- Bethel College defeated St. John's, the nation's fifth ranked team, Saturday in Arden Hills for the first time in their history behind 271 yards passing by junior quarterback Bart Becker (Conrad, MT). Becker completed 13 of 20 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Junior receiver Eric Carlson (Wadena, MN) caught seven passes for a career high 208 yards, including an 80 yard touchdown in the second quarter. Jeremy Belisle (Elk River, MN) got Bethel on the scoreboard first with a six yard TD pass on the Royals first drive of the game. Belisle tied Bethel's career record for touchdown receptions with 21.

Defensively, the Royals were led by senior safety Kirk Midthun (Dodge Center, MN) who had 12 tackles, 2.5 for loss, half a sack, and one pass break up. Sophomore safety Hans Bengtson (Northfield, MN) also had 12 tackles. Bethel recorded 10 sacks on the day, including 2 by sophomore defensive end Rick Meyer (Dodge Center, MN). The Royals held the Johnnies to 65 yards rushing on the day.

The Johnnies were led by senior quarterback Corey Stanger (Becker, MN) who threw for 239 yards, completeing 15 of 37 with two touchdowns.
