Royals rule in 74-0 lambasting of Scots

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- Bethel College dominated from the opening series and totaled 517 yards of offense and 11 touchdowns in beating the Scots in Arden Hills. Bethel held a 61-0 lead at halftime. The Royals rushed for a season high 313 yards, led by junior I-Back Josh Savageau (Blaine, MN) with 141 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Freshman Mike Johnson (Pine City, MN) rushed for 74 yards on 11 carries, including a 22 yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Bethel passed for 204 yards on the day, with junior Bart Becker (Conrad, MT) completing all six of his passes for 106 yards and one touchdown. Freshman Scott Kirchoff (Hutchinson, MN) completed 8 of 15 for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Senior receiver Jeremy Belisle (Big Lake, MN) caught five passes for 49 yards and three touchdowns. Belisle broke the school record for touchdown receptions on his first touchdown, a five yard catch in the first quarter. Belisle currently holds Bethel's records for career receptions, career touchdown receptions, and career yards receiving.

Bethel's defense controlled the Scots throughout the entire game, holding them to 62 yards rushing and 90 yards passing and forced seven turnovers. Sophomore linebacker Ben Kidd (Roseville, MN) led the Royals with eight total tackles. Junior cornerback Ben Matthews (Milaca, MN) returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and senior Kirk Midthun (Dodge Center, MN) recovered a fumble and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
