Jess Newstrom (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) earned her first collegiate shutout on Saturday in a 1-0 win for the Royals as they swept Saint Benedict. She nearly had back-to-back shutouts as she held the Blazers scoreless through 58:26 of game time on Friday night before they scored with the help of an extra attacker in Bethel's 2-1 win. Newstrom stopped 36 of 37 shots and, along with her teammates, killed off all eight Blazer power play opportunities in the two wins. Newstrom has allowed just five goals in her last four games and has brought her goals against average down by more than two goals in that span. Newstrom has a total of 217 saves for the season. The Royals have won three out of their last four games with Newstrom as goalie.
