ST. PAUL—A gutsy race resulted in a ninth-place finish for the Royals at the 2016 MIAC Cross Country Championships. One week after setting a personal record,
Madeline Cramer again led the team, finishing 37th overall. Her time over the 6K course was 24:26.4.
"This was a very courageous race for the entire women's team," said head coach
Joe Stephens. "They always find a way to perform well."
Freshman
Abigail Burr, the second Royal across the line, recorded an eight-second personal record of 24:34.4 to finish 41st overall. Newcomer Callie Chase was just behind her, running 24:36.9, finishing 45th.
Emmy Inwards (75th, 25:15.3) and
Lydia Herath (80th, 25:22.2) rounded out the scoring portion of Bethel's team.
No seniors and just one junior finished in the top five for the Royals, an encouraging sign for the future of the program. "After watching today, I'm more confident and excited for what's ahead," Stephens said.
The Royals return to the action Saturday, Nov. 12 in Northfield, Minn., where they will test themselves against the best in the Midwest at the Central Region Championships.
