ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Although the Bethel Royals were off last weekend, they were firing on all cylinders this afternoon as they hosted the Bethel Invitational at the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC).

Captain Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) continued her undefeated season by winning the 1,000 meter run in a time of 2:56.43, which surpassed the old school record by four seconds. “I didn't really know what to expect because it was my first ever 1k,” said Borner, “I wanted to make sure I didn't go out too hard and just focus on hitting my splits. I ended up feeling pretty strong and had a good last lap.”

Fellow captain Michaela Otto (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) won the 55 meter hurdles with a strong 8.96 second performance.

Kayla Jelen (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) took top honors in the mile run with a time of 5:27.81.
Kayla's sister and former Bethel athlete Heather Jelen won the 3,000 meter run in 10:45.44 seconds. Jelen was followed closely by Kristin Mork (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) who finished second with a time of 10:46.17.

Next week the Royals will send some of their athletes down to Iowa State to compete in the Iowa State Classic, while the majority of the team will compete in the Meet of Hearts on Saturday at Carleton College.
