LA CROSSE, Wis. - Call it a tune up or speed training, but either way,
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) and
Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) prepared for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by running the 800 meter race at the Last Chance Qualifier, hosted by UW-La Crosse.
Borner's time of 2:09.31 is two-tenths of a second better than her previous NCAA automatic qualifying and school record time set earlier this season. Her time keeps her in the top five on the national performance list for outdoor track in 2009, but she will most likely compete in the 1500 meter run at the national meet. Jelen also ran well in preparation for the national championships by earning an NCAA provisional time of 2:13.76 in the same event.
Borner and Jelen will most likely be joined at the national meet by teammate
Vanessa Moore (Sr., Grantsburg, Wis.) in the high jump. Moore has earned a provisional mark in her event, but she has tied for fifth best leap to date, all but assuring her a trip to the championships.
