NORTHFIELD, Minn.
- With the conference championship meet just three weeks away, the Bethel Royals continued to work on improving times and distances at the Manitou Classic, hosted by St. Olaf College. Three individuals took the top spots in their respective events on a very sunny, if not a little breezy, day.

Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, MInn.) improved upon her NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800 meter run to earn an automatic bid in the event with a time of 2:09.51, keeping her in the top three nationally ranked performances in the nation so far this season. Her time was more than three seconds better than her nearest competitor.

Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) won the 1500 meter race with a time of 4:39.48 - less than half a second away from earning an NCAA provisional qualifying time, while Vanessa Moore (Sr., Grantsburg, Wis.) improved upon her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the high jump by clearing 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches). Moore's leap is among the top four performances nationally in 2009.

Other notable performances for Bethel include a third place finish for the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a time of 4:01.89; a third place finish for Kjersten Karlsgodt (So., Atwater, Minn.) in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.81 meters (101 feet, 1 inch); a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter run for Katrina Foris (So., Ashland, Wis.) with a time of 11:47.48; and a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash for Leah Jackson (Sr., Fridley, Minn.) at 13.60 seconds.

Bethel's next scheduled meet is the Macalester Invitational on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 11 a.m.
